Mateete is a Savings and Credit Society (SACCO) founded in 2002 with the aim of providing financial opportunities to the youth and women of the Sembabule District (Central Uganda). Mateete operates six branches serving approximately 3,000 borrowers. Prior to the establishment of Mateete, people in Sembabule had to travel to Masaka (approximately 30 miles) to reach any formal banking services. Mateete has a history of strong financial results. The organization aims to increase its loan portfolio by approximately $1M (to $2.3M) and its savings by $500K (to$1.1M) by 2024.
